Meet Fagus
Inspired by Tasmania’s unique and ancient plants — from the golden autumn leaves of the Nothofagus gunnii to the lush green rainforest ferns and delicate native flower— Fagus embodies the heart and soul of our island’s natural beauty.
The Design Story
Tasmania is a hiker’s paradise — a land of wild mountains, fresh air, and breathtaking scenery that deeply inspires us. Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens (RTBG) collected a range of native flora to help people feel relax and reconnect with nature. Thanks to the generous guidance of the Gardens’ staff, we learned about many native plant species, their names, and their unique characteristics — and captured countless photos along the way.
These experiences became the foundation for Fagus’s design. Inspired by Tasmania’s distinct four seasons — unlike much of mainland Australia — Fagus changes colors throughout the year, reflecting the natural rhythms of the island.
The mascot’s soft, rounded shapes were chosen to make Fagus feel friendly and approachable, a character that people can easily connect with. We imagined Fagus living in a lush, pure landscape filled with green hills and clear waters — a true child of Tasmania’s wilderness.
Fagus’s leafy arms and gentle leaf crown give the character both flexibility and a distinctive look, symbolizing the graceful vitality of the plants that inspired its creation
